Raypunk Bounty Hunter costume build

Over thousands of years, intrepid humans have colonized and explored a galaxy full of strange planets, alien civilizations, and ancient wonders. As empires and coalitions have risen and fallen, law has given over to chaos and criminals escape by hopping star systems. In such a state, bounty hunters like Nova Lux have gained fame and fortune bringing renegades to justice. But greater challenges await, and the fate of the universe may be in the hands of Lux and some unlikely allies...

Yes, I am aware this is very much like a bargain bin Mandalorian (for full effect imagine that first paragraph in Star Wars style title crawl). For this build, I drew inspiration from several raypunk sources. The combination of the mask, gauntlets, and cowl, I was imagining one of the villains from Flash Gordon, General Klytus. For the sleek look to the top and pants I was echoing some of the designs and bodysuit from Barbarella  and Teela from the Masters of the Universe live-action movie. And for the raygun and jetpack I borrowed some ideas from some of the 1950s alien movies, as well as a bit of Jango Fett from the Star Wars prequel films (Boba Fett's a bit too dented for this particular design).

1. Cowl
When I was looking for Barbarella-esque tops, I came across this midnight blue spangled halter. It wasn't quite the look I was going for and the texture of it is like sandpaper, but the material does remind me a lot of the materials used in Flash Gordon, original series Star Trek, and other space-themed films/series from the 60s to 80s. To create the cowl around the mask, I wrapped the halter around my head and pinned it in place.

2. Mask
I painted this dollar store mask to be reminiscent of General Klytus from Flash Gordon. To learn more about the process, see the tutorial.

3. Top
I found this shirt at a thrift store for . I'm not quite as daring as Barbarella, so I was happier with the stripes showing hints of skin without going overboard.

4. Bracers
Like the mask, these originally started out as plastic dollar store Halloween armor, but were repainted and mounted to some black fake leather. To read more about how these came to life, here's the tutorial.

5. Breathing apparatus
This started out as a backpack water reservoir for a water pistol. I found the original here at a Five Below store, and have since transformed it into a life support unit for interstellar adventures. To see the process, here's a link to the tutorial.

6. Rayguns
Can't have a bounty hunter without a least one sidearm. And if I'm going into the Jango Fett style I might as well have a pair of raygun pistols. I tend to think of this pair as a stun-with-one-hand and kill-with-the-other duality, signaled by the red or blue marbles they possess. To learn more about how I made these rayguns you can visit this tutorial.

7. Holster
For the two holster rig I reused those I made for the Red Hood build. For more details you can look at the original tutorial.

8. Pants
These are a very basic pair of black athletic leggings, they actually end up as one of the pricier parts of this costume in buying them from Walmart for about $20. They are extremely comfortable, sleek, and have some convenient pockets down the sides.

9. Boots
I found this boots for $8 at a thrift store. They're a size large for me, but they don't slip around on my feet much so a thick pair of socks are just the trick.
