Starbat's Raypunk Adventure


Alright folks, strap in for some really bad photoshop and a weird costume. 



For this raypunk look, I was influenced mostly by movies like Barbarella and Forbidden Planet, as well a slew of B-movies and early science fiction comics, such as Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Star Trek (The Original Series), Lost in Space, etc. Also, I found this pair of ridiculous heel-less platform shoes, and everything else just sort of...happened.


The base of this outfit is pretty simple. I happened to have this fabulous 80s jacket, which I have to assume once belonged to the world's most fashionable yacht captain, complete with a double row of gold buttons, sheer panels, and a pair of massive shoulder pads. To go underneath, I picked up the shortest white dress known to man (it's entirely possible that this is supposed to be a shirt). To protect my virtue, I picked up some tights (which you can't really see because the light was terrible, but they're actually a shimmery, semi-sheer gold that looks amazing in the sun).


Okay, so those parts make sense. But then, you know, I had to do something. I had to make a statement. So I bought a birdcage. And, uh...put it on my head. With some fake birds.

I mean, it was a little more complicated than that. Apparently it's a kind of difficult to find a cheap, lightweight birdcage that fits over your head. And then I had to paint the sucker and stick birds on and everything. But specifics aside, I really don't have a coherent reason for putting a bird cage on my head. But there's an evil aviary in Barbarella, so...yeah.


Of course, to keep the birdcage on, I decided to attach it to some clothes hangers and wear it like an insane backpack, but it looks stupid so I edited them out of most of the pictures.


And really, what's a raypunk alien-girl to do without a terrifying companion?

How to make rebel pilot leg flares

Another basic part of the Iden Versio costume or any other rebel pilot are the leg flares and flare holder. It's the gray/olive band holding 8 silver "flares" on the left leg of Rebellion pilots in New Hope , Empire Strikes Back , and Return of the Jedi . There's a great tutorial using olive nylon webbing by Gil Guemes aka JediXXL at Rebel Legion , but since I couldn't find suitable webbing I adapted this for using basic fabric instead. How to make the collar from the Stargate Anubis Guard

For those intent on becoming the Prime of Ra and adopting the appearance of ancient Egyptian gods to terrorize the populace, welcome to my step-by-step guide of becoming the Anubis guard in the Stargate film. Most of these elements are going to be made from EVA foam, so this simple collar-piece was a good introduction to cutting, detailing, shaping, and painting foam. References Materials -8mm EVA foam -E600 clear glue -Dark copper metallic spray paint -Plastidip -Turquoise acrylic paint Tools -Dremel tool with sanding attachment -Box cutter -Woodburner -Foam wedge for painting, paper towels 1.
