May the Fourth Be With You: Star Wars Break

Image
Despite the blog's Star Trek reference, I as the Loonatic clearly have an obsession with Star Wars. So while we're exploring all these other genres of geekdom, I've been simultaneously chipping away at Star Wars projects and posts. And of course with recent news and today's special triple-word-score-level pun it would be a crime to pass up this opportunity to gush some more about Star Wars. So, if you would, prepare yourself for a brief intermission in our superhero series and brace yourself for the jump to hyperspace.  1. Star Wars Celebration In April the biggest Star Wars only convention landed in Chicago. This is especially welcome as they didn't have one in 2018 and we're within a year's time of another major Star Wars film. I sadly had to observe this festival of fandom from afar, but it brought a lot of news and great cosplay photos. Lots of panels with the actors, teaser trailers, merchandise, and random shenanigans. Though I had not heard...

Speculation: Cassian Andor series

Image
More exciting news! Not long after they announce The Mandalorian , Disney is on the road to filming another live-action series for their anticipated streaming service. Although details are incredibly sparse at this point, we currently know that it will follow "the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story " ( StarWars.com 2018 ). It will be a live-action series with a "spy thriller" bent. And Diego Luna will return to his role as Cassian Andor. Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, a Rebel operative in the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story .  In the last speculative post I was excited about the prospects of The Mandalorian in carrying on into the space western genre. My hopes are equally high for a Cassian Andor series. Stories about the people on the ground floor of the Rebellion, sans Jedi and Sith and the great midichlorian saga, I think would be great drama. As muc...

Speculation: The Mandalorian

Image
As with any Star Wars news, I got really excited to see that Disney is producing a live-action series called The Mandalorian . Given that the project is in the hands of Jon Favreau and is said to feature episodic directors like Taika Waititi ( Thor: Ragnarok ) and Deborah Chow ( Jessica Jones ), it has a lot of promise. Here's the summary from IMDb: "After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic" ( IMDb ).  More and more intriguing. At this point, mystery and theories far outstrip what has been revealed. All the better for wild speculation. In that case, I hope you like that sort of thing because I've got a lot of speculation. From the brief description quoted above, I can pin a lot of random ho...
