Star Wars Cocktails

Tatooine Sunrise
A long day’s work fixing moisture vaporators and fending off Tusken raiders on a desert planet like Tatooine is bound to create a powerful thirst. Blue milk’s a fine thing for a young hero, but you might need something more refreshing.
Gin’s long been a classic choice for a hot day, with light, botanical flavors. Lime juice and the bitter lemon soda give it bite and sparkle, and the grenadine provides a little sweetness and a dash of that sunset hue. And with two suns setting over the Dune Sea, it’s only natural to finish it with a garnish of two maraschino cherries.

1.5oz gin
0.25oz lemon or lime juice
0.25oz grenadine
3oz of bitter lemon soda
2 maraschino cherries

To an ice-filled glass, add the gin and lime juice. I think it looks better in a highball glass, but we don't have any unadorned ones. Top the drink with bitter lemon soda, and then drizzle the grenadine on the back of a spoon so that the grenadine creates a layer at the bottom. Garnish with the maraschino cherries and enjoy!

Blue Milk

So far we haven't found banthas in this galaxy, so it's hard to say exactly what Luke Skywalker was drinking on Tatooine. There are a fair number of Blue Milk cocktails out there, but we're keeping it simple. Starbat was inspired by the cocktail served at Tampa's Waypoint 6 Tavern, but this version has the coconut rum is evened out with vodka, which are both complemented by the sweetness of orgeat and the citrus flavors of the blue curacao. This "milk" has half-and-half because we had it in the fridge, but you could add or substitute whole milk if that's your taste.
1oz vodka
0.75oz coconut rum
0.75oz blue curacao
0.25oz orgeat syrup
2oz half and half
Orange wheel

So, into an ice-filled glass add vodka, coconut rum, blue curacao, orgeat, and half and half. Garnish with a wheel of orange if desired. Simple! If you want to make it complicated, blend it into a smoothie.

Rose of Alderaan

The bar cabinet of House Organa must have been amply stocked with the galaxy's liquors and refreshments. Too bad the Death Star made short work of that and the rest of Alderaan. Though we have no record of what cocktails might have been served, perhaps this floral, creamy drink might have made the grade. This drink was conceived as a twist of the White Russian, substituting the earthy coffee with lighter floral and spice flavors of rose liquor and whipped cream vodka. The base vodka adds booze without interfering with flavor, and the half and half mellows out the sweetness.

1.5oz vodka
0.5oz whipped cream vodka
0.5oz rose liqueur
1oz half and half

Use an old-fashioned glass for best effect. We recommend using a serving over ice and stirring the vodka, rose liquor, and whipped cream vodka together before adding the half and half. If you want something a little special, use a spherical ice mold and slightly underfill it. You end up adding a miniature Death Star to chill the drink.

Rylothian Starwine
There's a few classy cantinas out there, but somehow our heroes never have time for a drink in them. Still, I'd imagine a penthouse lounge on Coruscant or Canto Bight would serve their guests something of this caliber. The Starwine has a key balance is between the candy sweetness of the crème de violette and the herbal bitter of the absinthe. The vodka diffuses that knife-edge bittersweet, upping the alcohol without distracting from it. When topped with seltzer, the cocktail acquires the bubbliness of a champagne. For true decadence, add a sprig of grapes.

1.5oz vodka
0.5oz absinthe
0.5oz crème de violette
Top with seltzer
Grapes

To a brandy snifter or champagne flute, add the vodka, absinthe, and crème de violette. Top the drink with seltzer and if you have them add some grapes for a garnish.
