Stargate Atlantis: Best Episodes Season 1-2

Image
Okay, so although I love the original Stargate movie and the Stargate: SG-1 series, Stargate: Atlantis is my one true love in the Stargate diaspora. So in the normal way of blogs, I tried to compile a list of my favorite episodes. It got kind of long. The Loonatic told me to cut it down. In a fit of perverse rage I cut it into two posts instead. Anyway, this is the first of those posts, covering the first two seasons of Stargate: Atlantis. And again, this is a favorites post, so these episodes don't necessarily have an plot-based value. To give any newcomers a little help, I given each entry a summary and an explanation of what overarching relevance each episode has (if any). Rising (s1e1 and s1e2) All screencaps come from the lovely GateWorld.net Summary: A multi-national, scientist-led expedition boldly goes through the Stargate (a wormhole-harnessing device allowing for instantaneous travel across vast interstellar distances) on a mission to the lost city of

How to make a Stargate Atlantis Jacket

Getting ready for a trip to the Pegasus Galaxy? Then perhaps a budget-friendly expedition jacket would not go amiss. Made from a thrift store clothing, some patches, basic tools, and a can-do attitude, you can follow along with this tutorial to make your own version. This tutorial kicks off our run of Stargate-related projects, articles, and costume builds. For this challenge I drew a lot of inspiration from two tutorials found on the subject. You'll find my process was very much based on Jane's Folly's tutorial, listed below. Jane's Folly modifies an existing jacket, it's a good place to start. Sabinelagrande has a lot of good notes on different versions of the jacket and on making it screen-accurate. Terra Nova Guard Build

To finally say goodbye to the time of dinosaurs, I present a very basic futuristic soldier costume based on the short-lived Terra Nova television series. Because I need every excuse to use one of my most random thrift store finds of all time, the motocross jacket. The soldiers in Terra Nova seem to have a mishmash of military uniform types depending on function and rank. A unifying theme seems to be the black motocross-type armor, and then variants on camouflage or black. I modeled this look based on Lt. Washington, who as the second-in-command alternates between a more informal "civvies" look but also will don armor for operations. Reference Images 1. Armor In the series, Terra Nova soldiers wear a variation of what looks suspiciously like motocross armor. I lucked into this at a thrift store for about $20, and have removed the Fox racing logos. 2. Shirt A basic black tank top, already in my closet. 3. Pants Well I don't have mi
