Star Wars Rebel Trooper Build

Ever want to fight in the ranks of Star Wars cannon fodder? But fight for the good guys this time? No? OK that's fine but here's an Alliance trooper anyway. This costume build is aimed at creating non-standard Alliance trooper in the Original Trilogy/Rogue One era. It is definitely not screen-accurate/Rebel Legion level but I like to think it could pass as a background extra somewhere in those films. The idea was to create a sniper in the Pathfinders. Pathfinders, one of the special forces units in the Alliance tasked with commando-style missions, credited with being the strike teams on Scarif (Rogue One), Endor (Return of the Jedi), and various missions in Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

Reference

1. Goggles

A pair of motorcycle goggles picked up from a thrift store. These have amber lenses to help enhance contrast in low-light conditions.

2. Army cap

An olive green army cap, bought online for about $12. It has an adjustable back.

3. Jacket

I found this jacket in a thrift store for about $20. It's not exactly screen-accurate for any of the eras, but it has enough touches that looks military but also different enough from any current Earth uniforms.

The communication badge is detachable and is also a wallet tin. For more details on how to make your own see the tutorial

4. Shirt

As the jacket has a low neck, a good stout $4 long-sleeve shirt provides more protection. Originally I was looking for a mandarin-collar style, but this bit of a turtleneck works as well.

5. Pants

Cargo pants that were originally tan, dyed khaki green. The original tan stitching was resistant to dyes, but the price tag of $5 plus the $2 dye pack made it a decent choice.

6. Boots

Some rundown brown boots, about knee-high, with lacing at the top. They're a thrift store buy for about $8, and started out a nice alternative for steampunk and Jedi boots, but by now they're reaching the end of their life now with a serious case of flaking pleather. No matter, the wear and tear kind of works as a weathering.

7. A-300 Blaster rifle

This is a modified Nerf rifle which I modified to look more like an A-300/A310 blaster rifle with a sniper's barrel shroud. The A-300 is seen being carried by the Scarif rebel strike team, usually in the regular configuration but occasionally with the barrel shroud.

The two "cartridge" shapes are made from carved EVA foam.

And built an electroscope from EVA foam, foam clay, and PVC pipe mimic the outline.

The barrel shroud is a 9 inch length of 1inch wide PVC pipe with coupling glued into the barrel.

And for the strap I installed actual rifle sling swivel studs for the strap attachments, and then added a custom cotton webbing strap.

8. Medic/messenger bag

A handmade messenger bag, based on a design purchased on Etsy. The dimension have been expanded somewhat, the front pockets omitted, and inner pockets added. I made a custom stencil to spray paint a basic Alliance starbird design with Aurebesh "Tazmir" for a Star Wars-sounding surname. The strap also has a removable bandolier section with three pill cannisters to stand in for grenades.

9. Belt and gear

A leather waist belt, with an antique scout canteen and compass pouch.

10. Wrist communicator

An old watch got a Frankenstein facelift by painting it copper, adding some kitbash and lego pieces, and adding a new strap. If you're interested in kitbashing you can see the process in this tutorial.

And here are some extra shots, good luck and keep crafting!
