Star Wars Scoundrel Build
Sometimes the galaxy needs a little help from an unlikely source. Jedi are great and all, but when the Empire or First Order have all the keys and credits it's time to turn to someone who doesn't operate according to the rules. So in honor of the western-heavy slant of The Mandalorian I put together a shady character that would fit well at the corner booth of a Mos Eisley cantina. The lawless element of Star Wars, from Han Solo to Boba Fett, is heavily influenced by the western genre, so I made sure to include elements like a vest, boots, and a sombrero. Cad Bane is another more recent example of this in The Clone Wars series, and is a major inspiration for this costume. I also pulled some ideas from DJ from The Last Jedi, Han Solo from A New Hope, and a Legacy character Mirax Terrik Horn from Phantom Affair and other comics and novels.

Concept Drawing
1. Vest
I found this in a thrift store for $5 and immediately got Han Solo vibes. Originally I was going to go for my leather duster, but this has a sleeker look that's worn around the edges.
2. Halter top
I purchased the halter top at a thrift store about $4 or $5, not originally bought for this costume but it seemed to fit well enough. The deep cut of the V-neck contrasts the lines of the vest.
3. Pants
Also a thrift store find, grey pants with a black cavalry stripe up the leg. It echoes the pants Han Solo wears in the movies, minus the Corellian bloodstripes.
4. Belt and holster
I reused the belt and one of the holsters I used in the Red Hood build.
5. Blaster
This is my first blaster-painting project, so not as polished as the others but has some neat details. The Aurebesh inscription is "Black Betty" for a double Star Wars and song name reference. It also is a functional "nerf"-type dart shooter.
6. Slicer's belt pouch
A scoundrel won't get far in this galaxy without a few tools. This belt pouch has a few tools for "slicing" which is basically the equivalent of hacking, cracking, etc. in the Star Wars universe. For this I made a portable keypad, scramble key, and computer spike. To see the process visit the tutorial.
7. Boots
I used my pair of trusty black boots. Again.
8. Hat
And here's my trusty leather hat again. Dang it goes with a lot of weird stuff. This time sans the feather.
9. Pilot gloves
Ah the return of the fingerless gloves. These are essentially weight-lifting gloves with a few modifications to mask the brand names. You can find the tutorial here.
10. Necklace
I made this very quickly for a different project, but thought it would work well for this costume. The wire-wrapped quartz crystal is set against a beaten-up metal ring that I'd found from a parking lot somewhere. I put it together using this suede cord. I like to think of it as a good luck charm, not all that fancy and has seen a lot of changes in fortune.
And so those are the costume pieces to make a credible scoundrel fit for a dusty old cantina. Also had too much time on my hands in getting really dumb photos. Enjoy!
